This zip file containing the bear selections. Unzip the file and save in your PSP Selections folder. If you do not have a Selections folder, make one now.

This fur fill. Right click and save to your computer; open in psp and minimize.

Valentine Bear

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

1. Open a transparent image 500 x 500.  Set your foreground to #B09980 and your background to Pattern and select the "jd-fur" pattern (scale 100% - angle 0).

2. Add a new Raster Layer (all layers will be Raster layers) and name it "body".  Load the "jd-bearbody" selection (Selections - Load from Disk).  Flood fill the selection with your foreground color.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with your fur pattern.  Keep selected.

3. Go to Selections - Float.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 45
Blur 10
Vertical and Horizontal 0.

4. Selections - Select None.  Go to Effects - Geometric Effects - Wave and use these settings:

Horizontal and Vertical Amplitude 2
Horizontal and Vertical Wavelength 15.

5. Go to Selections - Select All; then Selections - Float and add the same Cutout as before.  Selections - Select None.

6. Add a new layer and name it "arms".  Load the "jd-beararms" selection.  Fill with your foreground color, contract by 2, fill with fur pattern, float and add the same cutout.  Apply the Wave and second Cutout as with the Body.  Selections - Select None.

7. Add a new layer and name it "feet".  Load the "jd-bearfeet" selection.  Follow the same steps as before.

8. Add a new layer and name it "ears".  Load the "jd-bearears1" selection.  Follow the same steps as before.

9. Add a new layer and name it "ears2".  Load the "jd-bearears2" selection.  Fill with your foreground color, contract by 1.  Change your foreground color to #DFB0B8 and fill the selection.  Keep selected and go to Effects - Noise - Add 24% Uniform.  Selections - Select None.  Go to Effects - Texture Effects - Fine Leather and use these settings:

Color Black
Angle 239
Blur 10
Number of Furrows 4
Length of Furrows 6
Transparency 250

10. Selections - Select None.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 55
Blur 8
Vertical and Horizontal 0.

11. Selections - Select None.  Change your foreground back to #B09980.  Add a new layer and name it "feet2".  Load the "jd-bearfeet2" selection.  Fill with your foreground color, contract by 2.  Change your foreground color to #DFB0B8 and fill the selection.  Selections - Float and add the same Cutout as before.  Selections - Select None.

12. Change your foreground back to #B09980.  Add a new layer and name it "head".  Load the "jd-bearhead" selection.  Fill with your foreground color, contract by 2, fill with fur pattern, float and add the same cutout.  Apply the Wave and second Cutout as with the Body.  Selections - Select None.

13. Add a new layer and name it "eyes".  Load the "jd-beareyes1" selection.  Fill with White.  Selections - Select None.

14. Add a new layer and name it "eyes2".  Load the "jd-beareyes2" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use the Round preset.  Selections - Select None.

15. Add a new layer and name it "nose".  Load the "jd-bearnose" selection.  Change your foreground color back to #B09980 and fill the selection.  Add an Inner Bevel with these settings:

16. Selections - Select None.  Add the same Drop Shadow as before.

17. Change your foreground color to #CC828F.  On the same layer (nose), load the "jd-smallheart" selection and fill.  Selections - Float, and add the same cutout.  Keep selected and add the same Inner Bevel and Drop Shadow.  Selections - Select None.

18. Add a new layer and name it "mouth".  Change your foreground color to #AF5F68.  Using your Draw Tool set to Freehand, Line Width 3, Antialias Checked, draw a mouth as shown:

19. In your Layer Pallette, click on the Body layer to activate it.  Add a new layer and name it "heart".  Load the "jd-largeheart" selection and fill with #AF5F68.  Selections - Float and add the same Cutout.  Selections - Select None.  Add the following Drop Shadow:

Color Black
Opacity 55
Blur 10
Vertical and Horizontal 0.

Selections - Select None.  Add your text now.

20. Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.  You can now export as a tube (File - Export - Picture Tube) or save in psp format.
