Christmas Tree
This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.
** Remember to save your work often! **
1. Open a transparent image 400 x 500.
2. Add a new Raster Layer (all layers will be Raster layers) and name it "trunk". Load the "jd-trunk" selection (Selections - Load from Disk). Flood fill with #004000. Selections - Select None.
3. Add a new layer and name it "pot". Load the "jd-pot" selection and fill with a color of your choice. I used #C00000. Keep selected.
4. Go to Effects - Noise - Add 3% Uniform. Selections - Float. Apply a Cutout with the following settings:
Color Black
Opacity 40
Blur 10
Horizontal and Vertical 2.
5. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow and use these settings:
Color Black
Opacity 50
Blur 5
Horizontal and Vertical 0.
6. Add a new layer and name it "tree". Load the "jd-tree" selection. Fill with #007000. Keep selected.
7. Go to Effects - Plugins - Eye Candy - Fur and use these settings:
8. Selections - Float. Add a Cutout using the same settings as before. Selections - Select None. Add the same Drop Shadow as before.
At this point you can stop and decorate to your liking, or continue with my instructions.
9. Add a new layer and name it "star". Load the "jd-star" selection. Fill with White.
10. Go to Effects - Plug-in Filters - Flaming Pear - Blade Pro. Click where I have indicated in the screen shot below. Browse to your Plug-ins folder; find the Blade Pro - Environments and Textures and choose "gold_glitter.q9q". These are the settings I used:
11. Selections - Select None.
If you do not have Blade Pro - Go to Effects - Texture Effects - Sculpture. Select the Gold Preset and use these settings:
12. Selections - Select None. Add the same Drop Shadow.
13. Add a new layer and name it "bows". Load the "jd-bows" selection. Fill with White. Add the same Blade Pro or Sculpture that you used for the star. Add the same Drop Shadow.
14. Add a new layer and name it "balls". Load the "jd-balls" selection. Fill with White. Fill with a color of your choice. I used #C00000. Keep selected.
15. Go to Effects - Plugins - Eye Candy - Glass and use these settings:
16. Selections - Select None.
17. Add a new layer. Re-load the "jd-tree" selection. Choose your Tube Tool and find the "Snow Gold" tube. Set the scale to 100% and click around inside the selection as much or as little as you like. Selections - Select None. Add the same Drop Shadow as before.
18. Hide layer 1 by clicking the little glasses on this layer of your Layer Palette. Layers - Merge - Merge Visible. Un-hide layer 1 and fill with a background color or pattern.
Here is another one I decorated differently.
