Mask Edges

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

This tutorial was originally written by my dear friend Patty and is posted here with her permission.  Thank you so much Patty; this is a great tutorial!

1. Open the image you wish to frame.  I am using an image called "Midsummer Roses" by Paula Vaughn.  I'm very proud to say that Ms. Vaughn has given me permission to use her works in my tutorials.  To see more of her beautiful work, visit her website HERE.

Go ahead and open your mask.  ** NOTE **  You will not be able to use a mask that has a drop shadow or rough edges.

2. Go to Mask - New - From Image.

Click OK.  You can close the mask now.

3. Go to Selections - From Mask.  Then Mask - Delete.  Click Yes on the box that opens about merging the layers.

4. Go to Selections - Modify - Expand by 10.  You may need to use a smaller number depending on the amount of space left after applying the mask.  Your image will look similar to this:

5. Keep selected.  Add a new Raster Layer.  Go to Layers - Arrange - Move Down.

6. With your eye dropper , select a color from your image.  Flood fill inside the expanded area of your image with the color you chose.  Selections - Select None.

7. With the magic wand , select the area you just colored.  Set Feather to 0, Tolerence to 20 and make sure "Sample Merged" is checked in your Tool Options Box.

8. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel.  I used the Frame Preset and left the default settings.  Selections - Select None.

9. Go to Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.  Resize if necessary.

Your image is ready to copy and paste onto a background image to use for stationery.  Below is an example.
