Filter Factory Gallery A - freeware

* NOTE * This filter will need to be converted for use in PSP. This is done using the Plugin Commander (free version available).
For a quick tutorial on converting the filters, Renee has a great one at The Task Bar.

Lace Mask Frame

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

1. Open the image you wish to frame.  I am using an image called "Flowers for Mama" by Paula Vaughn.  I'm very proud to say that Ms. Vaughn has given me permission to use her works in my tutorials.  To see more of her beautiful work, visit her website HERE.

2. Set your background to Black and your foreground to White.  Now set your foreground to texture and select the silver fill (scale 50 - angle 0).

3. Add a new Raster Layer and flood fill with White.

4. Go to Masks - Load from Disk.  Browse to your masks folder and choose "jd-mask116.msk".  Now Selections - From Mask.  Now Masks - Delete.  Click Yes in the box that pops up about merging the mask.

5. Flood fill the selection with the silver fill.  Selections - Select None.   Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 55
Blur 20
Vertical and Horizontal 0.

6. Repeat the Drop Shadow.  Layers - Merge - Merge All (Flatten).  This is what you should have so far:

7. Make sure your background color is set to Black.  Go to Image - Add - Borders.  Make sure Symmetric is checked and 3 is in all of the boxes.  Click OK.

8. Reverse your colors in your color pallette so that your background is now White.  Add a border of 5px.

9. Using your magic wand , Tolerence and Feather set to 0 and Sample Merged UNchecked, click on the new border.  Flood fill the border with the silver fill.  Selections - Select None.

10. Make Black your background color again.  Add another border of 3px.

11. Make White your background color again.  Add another border of 20px.  Select the border with your Magic Wand and fill with the silver fill.

12. Go to Effects - Plug-in Filters - Filter Factory A - Pool Shadow.  Accept the default settings and click OK.

13. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use these settings:

14. Selections - Select None.  Resize and Sharpen if necessary.

Here is the same image using a color from the image instead of the silver fill.
