Heart Shelf

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

1. Open a transparent image 500 x 500.  Set your foreground to pattern and choose your wood pattern.

2. Add a new Raster Layer (all layers will be Raster layers) and name it "rods".  Load the "jd-rods" selection (Selections - Load from Disk).  Flood fill with your wood (Scale 100% - Angle 0).  Selections - Select None.

3. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use these settings:

4. Add a new layer and name it "bottom".  Load the "jd-bottom" selection and fill with your wood (change the Angle to 90).  Selections - Select None.  Add the same Inner Bevel.

5. Add a new layer and name it "braces".  Load the "jd-braces" selection and fill with your wood (Angle 0).  Selections - Select None.  Add the same Inner Bevel.

6. Add a new layer and name it "shelf".  Load the "jd-shelf" selection and fill with your wood (Angle 90).  Selections - Select None.

7. Add a new layer and name it "trim".  Load the "jd-trim" selection and fill with your wood.  Selections - Select None.  Add the same Inner Bevel.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 75
Blur 5
Vertical 2
Horizontal 0.

8. Add a new layer and name it "hearts".  Load the "jd-hearts" selection and fill with your wood.  Selections - Select None.  Add the same Inner Bevel as before, but change the Width to 19 and the Depth to 5.

9. Add a new layer and name it "pegs".  Load the "jd-pegs" selection and fill with your wood.  Selections - Select None.  Add an Inner Bevel with these settings:

10. Add the following Drop Shadow:

Color Black
Opacity 75
Blur 5
Vertical and Horizontal 5.

11. Go to Window - Duplicate to make a copy of your image.  Save in psp format, or merge visible and export as a tube (File - Export - Picture Tube).

12. On your original, click on the "hearts" layer to activate it.  Add a new layer.  Now you can hang whatever you like from the pegs and add items to the shelf.  It is best to place each item on it's own layer so it will be easier to move them around.  Once you have everything in place, hide Layer 1 and Merge Visible.  Add a slight Drop Shadow to this layer (or you can add the shadow to each individual layer before merging).

13. Activate Layer 1 and fill with your choice your background.  Layers - Merge - Merge All (Flatten) and you're done.

A very special Thank You to Suz for testing this tutorial for me :-)
